At TOA we really enjoy hearing about the great projects our clients work on when specifying and installing our products. This installation at Sunningdale School in Sunderland had very specific needs to create the right audio ambience in the different areas.
Paul Dougherty of Blaydon Communications Ltd has updated us about why they designed the system as they did, what challenges it presented and the solutions they found using TOA products to fit the brief to create the best atmosphere for this unique project.
“Sunningdale School is a brand-new specialist school in Sunderland for children with severe, profound, and multiple learning difficulties. Covering pupils from ages 2 through to 11, it provides learning and support for the pupils themselves as well as parents, carers, and families.
To provide coverage throughout the main areas of the school and in most of the classrooms, flush mount ceiling loudspeakers were used. The TOA PC-1860S loudspeakers offered the perfect solution for audio quality and aesthetics in most areas, with over 120 loudspeakers being used across the site. A further 15 splashproof PC-3WR flush mount loudspeakers were fitted in areas that may be subject to damp conditions. Many of the classrooms and offices required volume controls to be fitted, and once again TOA equipment was used with a total of 27 AT-4012BQEB controls being neatly fitted into containment trunking within each required space.
The main halls of the school required speakers with a bit more oomph and quality compared to the general areas, so a total of 8 TOA F-2000W loudspeakers were installed to fulfil the acoustic requirements of each room. The F-2000W are the perfect solution for this type of space, offering a full range audio output combined with a modern aesthetic.
Blaydon Communications Limited were employed to provide a written specification and system design for a comprehensive public address and integrated background music system across the site for inclusion in the planning and tender stage. Due to the complexities of the systems this led to many contractors asking to subcontract the works to Blaydon Communications who are seen as a leading specialist in this sector.
The hydrotherapy pool also needed a better quality of audio, and as there was no suspended ceiling this meant that a wall mountable solution was required. TOA came up trumps again with the compact but powerful F-1300W series that comes in a water-resistant version too. A total of 4 F-1300W’s can now provide beautiful music in the pool environment.”
